DOTE ON Virtual Fitting Room is a space where a mirror in-store can capture your body measurement to show the clothes image in your reflection. This project will focus more on how this kind of fitting room make users feel better than other virtual fitting room.
THE TASK
Realizing that there are flaws in the space design of stores that have been installing virtual fitting tools, I want to repair and upgrade this type of technology space.
In this project, my role will be as an experience designer and focus on exploiting the client's fitting space experience to enhance the quality of their space experience in its entirety, like a fitting room common sense, but eliminating the limitations the normal one has.
THE SITUATION
Trying on clothes when going shopping is always a nightmare for women. Especially when she just loves a shirt on the shelf but doesn't know if she'll match it or not. However, she was too lazy to line up for the fitting room, and after that, it took her a long time to take off her clothes and items. The situation was even worse when it was winter and she was wearing different layers of clothes. So she gave up on the purchase and left the store. So, how to do with just looking in the mirror once the user knows that the suit will fit or not? It's called a virtual dressing room, this type of technology has become more common since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Clothing products have seen a sharp drop in retail sales during the pandemic. Even when these retail locations reopen, people are more hesitant to try on clothing items, worried it increases their risk of exposure to the virus.
RESEARCH PHASE
User Interviews
User Journey Map
After collecting data and sketching out a few ideas, I ended up prototyping a women's clothing store that represents the ideas listed above. The main purpose is to create a convenient shopping space exclusively for the retail system
The method that I am using and will continue to use for my projects is "Extremes and Mainstreams". This approach will help me design a solution that works for everyone, from those who get into the project's problem to those who interact with the problem. This will increase the usability of my design to a wider audience and create more opportunities to develop my design. In this project, when selecting interviewees, I chose people who have in common an interest in the in-store shopping experience. However, the difference is that they have different and opposite opinions about virtual fitting space. It was this difference that helped me realize many holes in the problem I wanted to solve as well as increase the idea of the design solution.
Reflection
This is also the first time I have completed a project focusing on experience design. I realize that experience design has a strong connection to the different areas of the visual communication major. It creates a different and creative interaction between different materials, forms, and backgrounds. To develop my design better, I think I need to focus more on human-centered thinking and take it as a goal to design my products. Besides, the combination of design and technology promotes user experience and creates interaction. Because I think that when two things are out of sync, I get a user-centered as well as feature-centric experience. But when the two are worked together, it can turn customers into brand evangelists.
Users Tasks
1. Learn more about the concept of project
2. Sharing their thoughts /stories
3. Support team during execution
Key Goals
1. Provide a faster and more convenient fitting space, but no less security and privacy
2. Increase the quality of the trial experience
3. Spread awareness with shoppers
Struggles
1. Still personal
2. Body measurement is leaking out
3. Can feel the clothes as exactly as they wear it
Through research and surveys from interviewees who like to shop in-store, I realized that the space of the fitting room is very important to shoppers. It greatly affects their shopping experience. The results I got from the above research:
User Touch Points
PROTOTYPE PHASE
Maquette
Sketch-up Draft
High-fedility Phase
Showcase of the visual component of the project
The light will light up when someone is using
Avoid causing discomfort to the person who is trying on the clothes inside
Interactive Walkthrough
What can I do to solve this problem?
Two types of fitting room - avoid preventing customers who like to feel the authenticity of the fabric on their body
Door Signage - provide information that ensures they've reached the right room they're looking for
Label - classify the types of items that should or should not try them through the virtual tool
Wayfinding Signage - guide passengers, and improve their understanding and experience of the space. Don't get confused or waste time finding the right one
Placed in the corner of the row and separate - for privacy
Banner - marketing and attracting people's attention
